
The 2004 R32 sold out of its U.S. allocation shortly after its market debut. VW has set up a reservation system for the new R32. Current GTI and R32 owners will be notified of the opening of an R32 micro-site on VW's Web site today. A prospective R32 customer will complete a "purchase interest" form, generating what VW describes as an R32 certificate. The first 850 people who present an R32 certificate along with a deposit to a VW dealer will be able to get one of the first R32 vehicles here.The R32 is equipped with a 3.2-liter V6 that delivers 250 hp and 236 pound-feet of torque. It is outfitted with standard 4Motion all-wheel drive. VW says it accelerates from zero to 60 mph in 6.4 seconds.
Other details include twin chrome exhausts, 18-inch alloy wheels, bi-xenon headlights, a unique front grille and R32 badging. Standard features include a rear roof spoiler, deep front spoiler and body-color bumpers, side bump strips, door handles and door mirrors. Safety features include electronic stability control and antilock brakes.
In the cabin, the R32 gets aluminum-look pedals and sports seats, a 10-speaker premium CD stereo system and a trip computer.
