Ford Mondeo

The current Ford Mondeo has been knocking around for seven years, and following a few teasing appearances on the big screen and elsewhere, the covers have finally come off the third-generation of Ford's family favourite in Geneva.

It's a good-looking car, though, with strong lines and a more pronounced shoulder line echoing Ford's 'kinetic design' styling philosophy.

Predictably, it'll come in four-door, five-door and estate guises, with four petrol and three diesel engines will be available at launch.

These range from the entry-level 1.6-litre Ti-VCT to the 2.5-litre five-cylinder out of the Focus ST. The big shifters are likely to be the diesels, though, with 1.8- and 2.0-litre variants both getting six-speed manual 'boxes.

Ford's engineers say that they've been hard at work to improve the Mondeo's driveability and reduce noise and vibration in the cabin, so it should be a relaxing and gentle drive.

Available to order immediately, the new Mondeo should reach the UK in June with prices starting at £14,995.
