BRUGGEN, Germany — IMSA is a resonant name for American racing fans, but in this case it refers to a German tuning firm with no relation to the race series.
The company has just introduced a tuning package for the open-top Lamborghini Gallardo Spyder, to match the package already available for the Gallardo.
The company, run by Holger Mohr, first introduced its Gallardo GTV package a year ago. Wider tracks, new alloy wheels, bigger brake discs and an exclusive interior with a mix of leather, aluminum and carbon-fiber trim were the highlights of the pack. And there was passing reference to a power hike to 600 horsepower.
The new treatment on the Gallardo Spyder is the same: an even wider body, huge 245/30ZR20 tires at the front and 325/25ZR20 tires at the back, front and rear aprons and spoilers, plus the same comfortable and striking interior. The engine makes 610 hp and is capable of 483 pound-feet of torque. Both the four-wheel-drive system and the suspension have been adjusted to cope with the increased power.
