GENEVA — Mitsubishi Motors, strapped for cash and suffering from dwindling sales around the globe, will arrive at the big spring motor show in Europe with a limited product arsenal.
Its biggest news for the annual Geneva salon is a reprise of the Prototype-X, a concept version of the next-generation Lancer Evo X that was previously unveiled in January, at the Detroit show.
At the Detroit show Mitsubishi announced that the production Evo X will go on sale in the U.S. in the first quarter of 2008. Its sedate sibling, the 2008 Lancer sedan, reaches dealerships this fall.
The Protoype-X boasts a reworked version of Mitsubishi's potent turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, as well as a new high-performance all-wheel-drive system dubbed Super-All Wheel Control (S-AWC). The concept also features a new paddle-shift automated manual transmission that will make its debut in the production Evo X.
At Geneva, Mitsubishi also will be displaying the European edition of the 2007 Outlander crossover, with new diesel engines sourced from Volkswagen and Peugeot.
