All Lancer models come with a new 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that delivers 152 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and 146 pound-feet of torque at 4,250 rpm. California gets a PZEV-certified Lancer that delivers 143 hp at 6,000 rpm and 143 lb-ft of torque at 4,250 rpm. The new engine gets a boost of 32 hp over the previous inline-4's 120 hp. The new 2.0-liter engine is mated to a five-speed manual transmission. A continuously variable transmission (CVT) is also available on all three trim levels. The CVT adds $900 to the price of the base DE model.
Options on the 2008 Lancer include a $2,000 Navigation and Technology package and a $1,500 Sun and Sound package that bundles a 650-watt Rockford Fosgate premium sound system with Sirius Satellite Radio and a six-disc CD in-dash head unit. Another $1,100 option package includes air-conditioning, antilock brakes, power door locks and an auto up/down driver's window.
